Try these simple solutions for shredding thread in your Brother or Babylock Embroidery Machine.
1) No matter what the problem, it is always best to start from scratch. So remove both the bobbin and the top thread.
2) Clean out all lint and dust from the bobbin area and from the top tension discs and thread paths.
3) Replace the needle. A rough spot on the needle can also cause thread shredding.
4) Check for any nicks on the bobbin case, bobbin, or throat plate (where the needle enters the machine).
5) Re-thread the embroidery machine with the foot in the up position (this relaxes the top tension discs for threading).
If a total re-thread doesn’t fix your problem, then try checking the thread guide #6 in your Brother or Babylock brand single needle embroidery machine. The #6 thread guide can cause sudden thread shredding. The video below will show you how to fix this problem with the #6 thread guide.

Next, check the bobbin case for burrs.
